The Fourth Working Meeting of the Compilation Committee for the Standard for Reliability Assessment of Engineering Structures Successfully Held at Wuhan Institute of Technology
On April 19, 2026, the Fourth Working Meeting of the Compilation Committee for the Standard for Reliability Assessment of Engineering Structures was successfully held in Room 213 of the Jianchuang Building on the Wuchang Campus of Wuhan Institute of Technology.
Li Jie, Honorary Chair Professor of Tongji University, and Xiao Congzhen, Chief Scientist of China Academy of Building Research, attended the meeting and provided academic guidance. More than 20 experts and representatives from institutions including Tongji University, Harbin Institute of Technology, Chongqing University, Beijing University of Technology, Dalian University of Technology, Hunan University, Southwest Jiaotong University, Hefei University of Technology, China Academy of Building Research, and Sichuan Academy of Building Research participated in the meeting and conducted in-depth discussions on the draft standard. The meeting was chaired by Professor Liu Zhangjun, Dean of the School of Civil Engineering and Architecture.

At the opening ceremony, Han Gaojun, Member of the Standing Committee of the University Party Committee and Director of the Publicity Department, delivered a welcome speech on behalf of the university. He warmly welcomed the attending experts and noted that reliability theory serves as a critical foundation for ensuring the safety of engineering structural design. Hosting this compilation meeting at the university not only reflects full recognition of the achievements in the development of the university’s civil engineering discipline, but also provides valuable opportunities for faculty members and students to understand cutting-edge industry developments, broaden academic perspectives, and grasp future disciplinary trends.

Academician Li Jie and Master Xiao Congzhen each delivered keynote speeches, providing in-depth discussions on the development trends of engineering structural reliability. They particularly emphasized the inevitable transition and practical necessity of upgrading engineering design methodologies from approximate probabilistic design to full probabilistic design.
Entrusted by the compilation committee, Professor Lu Chaohui from Beijing University of Technology, Professor Chen Jun from Tongji University, Professor Lü Dagang from Harbin Institute of Technology, and Professor Chen Jianbing from Tongji University successively presented detailed reports on the revisions to the draft standard, systematically reviewing the key contents of the current revision round.
Following a full day of intensive and efficient discussions, the meeting clarified the next-stage revision tasks, responsibilities, and timetable for the standard development work. The compilation committee unanimously agreed that the formulation of the standard should be grounded in the practical needs of engineering structural design in China, while fully incorporating the latest theoretical achievements and engineering experiences from related fields both domestically and internationally. The goal is to establish a high-standard technical specification characterized by scientific rigor, advanced methodology, and strong operability, thereby providing solid support for improving the safety and reliability of engineering structures in China.
The School of Civil Engineering and Architecture will take this meeting as an opportunity to further deepen exchanges and cooperation with leading domestic universities and research institutes, continuously promote the coordinated development of discipline construction, talent cultivation, and scientific innovation, and contribute to engineering safety and the high-quality development of the industry.
